MyChub Update - October 2007

First of all,
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all our muslim friends.

These are the updates for MyChub website up to October 2007
1) MyChub widget
- allows embedding of profiles into blogs / website to provide real-time update of featured users in mychub.

2) Ajax Menu (accordion style)
- using "prototype ajax" the menu system have been optimized to allow a more efficient use of space and users are able to click on a specific menu which will drop-down to show more options.
This effect have been integrated into online users, mystories and other modules to provide a smooth flow of the page.

3) Featured User Update (Safari friendly)
- the Featured User section have been revamped to allow a a more cross-browser functionality. As more users are using safari browsers, we are catering to a more robust coding.
Translated: MyChub now looks beautiful using your Ipod / Iphone.

What goes under the hood ?

These few days I was busy updating the components of mychub to match the configuration of the new server. Until now, the working modules are:
1) Stats component (http://mychub.dyndns.org/stats)
2) Music module
3) Personal URL module (http://mychub.dyndns.org/members/(username))

Still pending are the fix for:
1) Webchat module
2) Personal gallery
3) Friends component

One good news is the working online file editor -- a GNU/EMAC web base client for quick code fixing. I'm no more bound to a particular machine for code editing.

A part from that, a few optimization steps have been taken to make the profiles load faster, e.g: the foreach() statements have been removed for a more direct approach to the database access. This translates to a faster query and profile viewing.

It's great that we are finally on track for more services in mychub.

MyChub Comeback - August 2007!!

After more than 3 months of hard toil. The MyChub server have been finally stabilized. This is a technical feat considering how much effort been put into making this a reality.

Special thanks goes to chubamante for the support and technical know-how.

Now since MyChub is back on track, we are expecting more to be done in the near future. But before that, here are a few technical specs for the new server.

A split of the servers lovingly name: bulat, mychub2 and perut
bulat - is our SQL Server
mychub2 - is our Webserver
perut - is our image / media server.

All integration is done seamlessly, thus you should not be worried about that.
The main URL would still be : mychub.dyndns.org
(mychub.org had been hijacked by sedo.com - shame on you!)

MyChub.ORG version 3

MyChub.ORG has yet again undergone a massive upgrade. There just too many features added and even the underlying core engine has been upgraded and improved.

1) Mambo 4.6.1
- This is the latest installation of the mambo CMS portal that is used to generate the dynamic pages of mychub. Loads of security and bug fixes added.

2) PHP 5
- Yes, the core php engine for mychub has been upgraded from PHP 4 to PHP 5, ensuring a yet faster response time.

3) MySQL 5 + ORACLE 10g
- From just a mere MySQL 4, we have added 2 new database to support the massive influx of users and a load of new features (present & future) release.

4) 36GB webspace
- Yupp.. a whopping 36 Gigabyte upgrade from our initial 100MB startup package. This provides more leg-room to stretch our capabilities.

5) Dual Xeon Server + 2GB of Memory
- A hardware upgrade which is able to handle 100,000 users simultaneously without a hitch.

6) a dedicated T1 line just for MyChub
- an upgrade to the existing shared connection.
