Webcam Module & Bug in the chat module (fixed) - 02 December 2004

MyChub now support webcam chat !!! This is exactly like the module in biggercity, but much better coz it's coded from the ground-up by Malaysians. A true technological feat for malaysian by malaysian.. Malaysia Boleh Jugek!

Found a bug in the chat module and fixed it (2 Dis 2004). The bug relates to users not being able to chat properly in the main channel asking for registration and licence issues. It's b'coz if the URL redirection script. Added the code and a new coded java module.

Quality Control Check & Security Update

We are doing the process of QC (Quality Control) check on all the modules in MyChub.ORG.
Issues found and fixed ....
1. Javascript vunerabilities found - fixed & patched (30/11/2004) - RISK HIGH
- Issue: The Java module was not properly initiated and caused security issues when using Firefox browsers ( & other non-IE browser) resulting in users being able to download unauthorised pictures.
- Solution: Updated the java module to the latest release and patch the corresponding module to prevent URL leaking.
2. Certain browser cannot initiate login (esp. Mac Safari) - pending - RISK VERY MINIMAL
- Issue: Certain browser cannot read the URL well and requires as minimal redirection as possible.
- Solution: Cross-browser module in progress to initiate safe mode section.

These are notes for myself to do for the next upgrade:-
1. Browse member listing in 3 x 6 format and/or with variable format such as www.bearwww.com
2. New template - the current one is becoming quite a bore.. or at least until i could code a dynamic template which follows the user preference.
3. Flash modules.. need some good animation on the newsflash module.
3. MyCartoon section needs to be upgraded.. maybe i need to code a new gallery module with pop-up window so readers can read the cartoons... perhaps with pdf function too so they also could print it.

More updated modules...

I've been coding like crazie over these few days. Finally 3 main modules are completed.

1. MyPMS module - now you can click on a username and view his profile right from the inbox.

2. User Profile URL been upgraded. Now you can view a user's profile by entering:-

(later I will shorten the url to http://www.mychub.org/gemukchub)

3. Partystaff bugfix - the "back" link have been changed to javascript:history.back(). So that it can better integrate with the new URL and and other modules.

MyChub.ORG is nearly complete!!!

MyChub.ORG 4.5.1a Upgrade

Finally upgraded to the latest stable version of Mambo to the MyChub.org website.
This means that :-
1. Faster - a new caching alogarithm embeded in the new version enable users to view the dynamic content on the fly.
2. Stable - fixes the security hole found in the older version of mambo.
3. Updated - latest modules develop for the mambo system can now be integrated into the design of the site.

Other than that, I've also added a search engine for member profiles.
- This powerful feature enables users to search members, view their profiles and even message users without going through the slower browsing profile method.

Finally, I've updated the Private Gallery module so that "paid" users can send virtual E-Card using the pictures within the gallery. I've also categorized the galleries into sub-galleries so that we can add-in more pictures without sacrificing the limited viewing space.

Some backend upgrade...

I've upgraded the backend of the MyChub website. Normal users will not see this, it's just a GUI upgrade for the administrators. Very nice and easier for the management of the site. The frontend of the user section will be added soon. More stuff will be added as soon as I find time for it. The site is nicely evolving to add more interactive module to the site.

I've found a rival group is copying what we are doing. Hehehe.. even bold enough to register under the ORG domain. Poorly, that's the only thing that they know how to do.. copy whatever innovations we have done. What they don't know is the technical skills and modifications that we have done to mychub. MyChub is the best because we know what we do and we put our heart and soul for the improvement the community.

12 hours later and a full night without sleep....

I've finally coded the new chat module. It's more optimized and faster than the pervious module. The new address for the Java chat module is: http://www.mychub.org/chat

The coding now is much simplified with just a nickname to be inserted... the rest will be handled by the chat script. The GUI is still pretty crude but I will work on that later... it's just cosmetic change anyway.

Along the way, I've added 4 new greeting card for the MyChub Card section.. and revamped the MyChub Models greeting card to preview Models for Year 2005. The greeting card is now complete... with 2 new raya card and 3 new models card.

I've also made some spring cleaning on the Emerge site since they are complaining that we are above quota. I mean how can I be above quota when I'm only using abt 10MB or less... there is a serious flaw in their system I tell you.

Anyway.. if I have time later this afternoon, I'll be adding a few musical flash card to the Raya card collection. Funky huh!!!

Javachat script down ! and more bad news...

Today (07/11/2004) something went wrong with our javascript chat module - the longest running module in mychub website history. I'm trying my best, to do a new faster code module for the chatroom but time constraints has a nasty habis of catching up on me.

More bad news of the site module is that Fivio had decided to enable PHP SAFE_MODE = ON. A really nasty option coz it would make the module harder to update but essentially needed to protect from malicious hackers. (Just like what had happened to Emerge) I've finished experimenting with the new Mambo 4.5.1 and was about to upgrade MyChub.ORG to the new mambo core when I got this news. Well back to the drawing board I guess.... I like the new core coz it has a few nifty features like caching options and a sleek admin design.. more controls on the frontpage design and the ability to use different template for different section of the site. Until then, we are still negotiating with Fivio over this matter and rest assured that our security features are among the best in the industry.

A little bit of good news is that Mychub.ORG is helping adikliar (one of the founder of SayangAbang) to set up a new Malaysian Bear site. It will be based on the core mychub module, with a little added creativity and new speciality modules along the way. We hope that it will be a big success and more and more malaysian programmers will join in our effort to make the Malaysian Bears Chubbies Daddies & Chasers a lively scene. We already had enuff of the bullshits and craps from the lamers you-know-who and the you-know-what groups with their lip-sync sing songs routines.

New Video Server & New Greeting Cards

As of 22 Oct 2004, I've added a new video server component into MyChub.ORG. Thus, we can now see the video of various MyChub's activities in video format.

I'm still in the process of coding the Greeting card module. Hope it will be finished by this afternoon. Just in time for the Hari Raya Season too. Keep your fingers crossed guys as there will be more to come.

New Messaging Module !!!

Today (14/10/2004) I've perfected the messaging module coding. So that if we have sent a reply to the person.. we can see that in the page the icon turned green. Easier for us to see if we had replied a msg or not. Nifty huh..!!!

I'll promise to update the members gallery module to... but still needs time to test it.

Now with 2 hostings, I'm planning to merge those 2 hosting together to make a seamless integration. This involves running 2 website under only 1 mambo module and 1 MySQL database. This big project will improve the speed of some heavily visited section like the galleries and members section. I have not known of any site doing this before and if were are sucessful, it will be the 1st one to do it. Theoretically it can be done.

I've also tracked-down the IP of the culprit who is spreading various lies about MyChub in the Yahoo group. Also known as wan2mambo@yahoo.com and man4manchub@yahoo.com. The coward running the Yahoo Group mychasers2003. He is hiding under the IP 219.93.174.xxx.

A report to the proper authorities have been made. I am not desperate nor afraid neither looking for public sympathy.

I'm currently doing an update module to the messaging system so that when we click on a user.. we will see his profile.

2. MyPartystaff
I'm thinking of using a redirection system to the partystaff system so that users can go directly to their respective folder without logging into the system. Like those of biggercity / faceparty.

Cosmetic Change ver 1.1

Well.. it's not the type of cosmetic with lipstick and wigs. What we meant by cosmetic is a total change in the colour scheme and overall presentation of the site.

Although the old site has a dark and gloom outlook.. the new changed template has a sharp and sleek touch in it. Hopefully it will also help to hasten the upload of the site since it's optimised. The old site is just too slow for heavybandwidth.

However, many of our patrons still prefer the old theme.. well.. I've added a poll to see what's the response.

More updated updates !!!

Well... basically what I add in was a feature to update the new members column so that we can see if anybody has updated the picture, we can automatically see them. regardless of if they are a new member or not.

Hopefully, with this dynamic feature, we can see how fast the site is moving and we can see what have been added to site without going through the administration side.

Preventing thiefs...

So much I did but went undocumented. Anyway, I've added a new coding to prevent thiefs from stealing our pictures. Mainly, the moderator of Mychasers2003 which is man4manchub. They even bold enough to tell lies that mychub told them to do so. What a miserable asshole thief. Liar !!! Liar!! Liar !!!

I've work hard to make mychub a reputable site. And all they do is damage the integrity of the site. Anyway, sooner or later people will know the true nature if this and people like them can't stay long. Coz they depend on mychub either they know it or not. Without mychub, they are nothing. Just leeches and parasites. Okay.. all out of my system.

Any coders would like to contribute or make amends or a new module for the site are welcomed to do so!!

Gawd! I miss our old host ....

Yeah.. I trully do. It was fast and stable. And I had no problems at all when it comes to uploads and downloads. Furthermore, it's completely FREE. (Yeah it does not have all those snazzy php thingie and the mambo jumbo with MySQL and stuff)... but back then I was happilly coding in HTML and it does not matters was how much abuse i put to the system. It always works like a charm. Even found a few neat tricks to squeeze more space from the system.

Our new Emerge host was not perfoming as expected. Lots and lots of setbacks. I had to do extra work cranking my brains to develop new php modules. And then, out of the blue, they change the server settings without even informing us - the paid customers.

Compared to our 1st host (chubnet.com) which was really an enjoyment working with them. I love Jim & Larry of Chubnet.com. They were ever so polite and helpful. Even took the extra effort to help a newbie like me to do my 1st HTML code.

MyChub is back better than eva !

Finally, 72 hours after the crisis arises, mychub finally back online and all the bugs identified and fixed. It was no small feat either.. i had e-mail and called the support team of our host and complained like a bitch. After which they ignored my plea completely.

So the next best thing was to recompile the whole site and redo the whole sequence according to the scarce instructions from mamboportal.org. The hand coded module had been reset and injected in the mos_installer component and successfully running within the SAFE MODE limitation.

A thousand apologies to our members cause during the installation process, all of our members components got deleted.. and so do your messages. *sigh*

To those who complained :- please take note that I'm doing this whole project ALONE!. I'd would really appriciate your patience while I fixed the bugs. I also have a daytime job which I need to keep. This is just a volunteer job.

MyChub.ORG setbacks!

SITUATION
After a whole week of hard work (sleepless nights).. all gone down the drain. Reason ? our stupid host (localdns.com) had decided to change the main PHP setting to SAFE MODE = ON .

Result
Total haywire of the mychub.org due to incompatibilities with file permission. Some hand coded modules did not work anymore since it did not allow FTP upload.. but only through the MOS installer (... this sucks!). Which means i have to recompile the code and upload it using the MOS installer. This will take time and makes hand coding + testing of modules much much harder.

SHORT TERM REMEDIAL
Disable some of the modules and/or reinstall the 'stock' module. Bug fix some of the unfriendly SAFE MODE codes.

LONG TERM REMEDIAL
1. Test the modules on a testing server.
2. Recompile the 'custom' module and upload it.
3. Cross my fingers and hope it all works fine.

It's 3.30 AM and i'm too tired, hungry and depress at our host for their action to change anything without informing the customer 1st. Tomorrow I have a big meeting and I had not prepared anything ... YIKES !

I've been neglecting my own projects for too long. BTW the SMS system I'm developing using JAVA Tomcat has too many bugs inside. And now Oracle wants to charge me MYR 44,000.00 for my use of their database.

Today my brand new MYR 26,000.00 Dual Xeon server got infected with a virus and SpamCop had my server listed. My ISP is threatening to terminate my conection unless I do something about it. Called my vendor and they say they have no support for machines with virus problems. So what should I do ... ?

(but then this is work related - sorry for venting my frustrations here).

Hand coded Module

After a carefull study of the mambo CMS, I found that it's a kick-ass CMS system. Unfortunately it does not have most of the modules that i wanted.
e.g: New members module shown on the front page.

So I started today, to hand code the 'missing' module myself.
- the 1st module is to show who's online and link them to the PMS_II messaging system. It took me about 3 hours to understand PHP coding which relates to linking to the pms system. DONE !
- the 2nd module is to add a new members who had registered into the front page.
based of the new members module and partystaff, I had re-coded the tabling system and link it to members pictures using the ever popular SQL statements. DONE !
- the 3rd module is actually adding a code to prevent caching of pictures which will make pictures auto update itself. A nifty hack was using the time() statement added to the end of each picture request. DONE !
- the 4th module is the de-registration module. When a user wants remove himself from mychub org.. it will also delete their picture and any posting they sent in partystaff.

Then I started to tinker with the mambo components.
Partystaff
- the 1st component was Partystaff it self which was really a beta version. Redesigned the sub_edit function to enable auto send date function .
- 2ndly revamped the upload section due to problems with extension e.g: JPG and .jpg.
- 3rd added a form validation code to sub_edit function to force users to add more info in their profile.
RSGallery
- 1st change the validation sequence in the gallery, hence only those who uploaded their picture will be able to view the gallery.
- a 2nd validation feature were added where only ppl who updates their profile can view the gallery.

In total = it took me abt 2 weeks to code in php all the modules needed for mychub.org! HOLA !!

Future projects:-
1. A msg system like of Yahoo.com. So those who are online can send msg in real-time to other online ppl.
2. A notification feature where those who receives msg are also notified via e-mail.

Access Forbidden: Too many users are connected

- This is the first time in months that we face with a bandwidth bottleneck. This shows that mychub.org is becoming more popular than ever.

_ To provide more bandwidth than that provided by our current ISP (TIMEdot net), we are moving part of the heavily accessed portion of the site to a new server (Emerge system). Thus, with this upgrade we will be able to handle more users in the future.

E-Chub :: Large and In-Charge

Moks will be going to Cambodia for a couple of months (work related). Thus, the running of mychub.org will be taken over by E-Chub. Thus, we will likely see a more dynamic page running under Mambo portal system soon. Thanks e-chub for you time and effort in helping out. I'll bring back some chubs for you when I get back.. hahha (just kidding)

- Added a few more touch-up to the site, namely a dynamic poster system. If you look closely at the poster boy in the page.. it will change at every 3 minute interval... kinda neat huh ? anyway, I will add more stuff later..

www.mychub.org - version 1.0

- On 26 February 2004, we got our own domain name, www.mychub.org This hosting is donated by a generous patron who wish to remain nameless. TQ TQ TQ for the generous donation of RM 435 / year for the hosting. Works are still pending for the MAMBO templates to utilize the PHP and MySQL site.

Chinese New Year Version 2004

- Added a CNY picture donated by Ray. Thanks Ray, ur cartoons are soo cute !!!
